Course Redesign Sprint!

Course Redesign Sprint!

Course Redesign Sprint (August Tuesday, 18 – Friday, August 21)

Β

If you are a new instructor, an experienced instructor or a faculty member wanting to get some ideas for teaching digitally – for Fall courses or preparing courses for Winter 2021 – this is our last Course Redesign Sprint being offered synchronously until December. For anyone wanting to get a jump start on Winter courses we are offering this session to help those planning ahead.

You will receive nearly 11 hours of facilitated instruction on how to redesign your course for one of the three NIC digital formats. The four days will serve as a model for how to teach online with the facilitators involving faculty in a variety of digital learning experiences. It has to be experienced to see the ins and outs of teaching online!

Β

Description

A course sprint is a 4-day applied workshop focusing on helping faculty translate their face-to-face courses into digital formats. Emphasis is on the essential components faculty need to consider along with strategies and instructions about how to plan effectively and efficiently. The session covers components that are part of the acronym ACCESS: Assessment, Communication, Content, Engagement, Summarizing and Supports. Some new components are added from previous offerings.

Registration
Email ctli@nic.bc.ca. Currently we have 3 faculty registered. We require 5 -10 faculty to run this session with good discussion and engagement. Deadline to register is Friday, August 14th by 5 pm. If you don’t get this email until the weekend of August 15 and 16, we can facilitate last minute additions if we reach 5 people by Friday’s deadline.

August Version of the Course Sprint
The Sprint covers 4 days with workshop times scheduled into 7, 1.5 hour segments happening in the late morning (10:30 am – 12:00 pm) and early afternoon (1:00 – 2:30 pm) with lunch as a break in between. Each segment will engage participants in discussions, breakout groups, exploring tools and techniques, as well as answering questions about translating your course to a digital format. The whole is modelling how to teach both a synchronous and asynchronous course. We are here to help!
