Teaching Inventories

It is worthy for all instructors to undertake one or more self-assessments of teaching goals, perspectives and/or practices.

Each of the following inventories presents a unique perspective to explore your perceptions about your teaching practice.

Set aside about 20 – 30 minutes to complete each free inventory and explore the feedback.

Teaching Goals Inventory

Angelo and Cross designed the Teaching Goals Inventory to help instructors articulate teaching values or the goals for a specific course. This is a self-scoring online tool. There are 52 goals you assess to what you deliberately aim to have your students accomplish (not what you feel is a worthy goal).

Teaching Practices Inventory

Carl Wieman designed the Teaching Practices Inventory to characterize the teaching practices most used in undergraduate studies. Obtain detailed characterization of your practices. Tested with 100’s of instructors at UBC over 6 years. Stanford Online Inventory link is below as a digital version.

Teaching Perspectives Inventory

The TPI is 45 item inventory that will assess your orientation to teaching. Two decades of research in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and US. Five different perspectives to better understand your own views and how you express them through your beliefs, intentions and actions.
