Faculty Teaching and Learning Supports

The Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) is here to support you. Let us know how we can help. Reminder about 10 key NIC instructor resources below.

 

  • Faculty Care and Share Sessions: Rest of term – Wednesday evenings 7:30 – 8:30 pm or Thursday mornings 9:30 – 10:30 am – invites sent Tuesday, October 6th with BlueJeans link. Join Liesel for an informal chat about whatever is on your mind, share your burning questions, offer your thoughts on how things are going or just sit back and listen….whenever you wish to come.

 

  • Teaching and Learning and Tech Support: (helpdesk@nic.bc.ca) for teaching, learning or technology quick questions, requests for consultations, setting up department conversations, complex problems, issues or challenges with learning technologies, course design support, assessment or quiz/test questions etc. – put Teaching and Learning Support in the subject line

 

 

  • Faculty Recording Studios: Support from IT to record videos with whiteboard, document cameras – all done in campus ITV room – Β Harry Tewinkel is ready and willing to help you with recording!

 

  • Faculty Video Kits – GoPro Cameras, Tripods and Lighting  – 48-hour sign out kits for faculty via the library – for recording lessons, demos, in a lab, studio or classroom (video recording beyond what web cams at home or in office can do) – enhancements to kits coming – lapel mics, battery chargers, etc.

 

  • BlueJeans Enhancements: Closed captioning is here and is UNLIMITED use for whole institution (new!), recordings can have transcripts (if enabled on your account), all accounts can take up to 200 participants now, pagination beyond 25 videos coming in November (e.g., can scroll to next page of 25 students!), 7X7 Gallery view (49 videos per screen coming in 2021), enhancements to breakout groups coming in 2021 too! Teach Anywhere has the full suite of videos and handouts on using BlueJeans. See flyout menus for more.

 

  • Teach Anywhere website: Supports on Digital Pedagogies for North Island College Instructors (81 pages of info, links, resources, videos, articles etc.) – this site is for you!

 

  • Learn Anywhere website: Resources for North Island College Students Learning in a Digital World (40 pages of info, links, resources, videos, articles etc.) – built for students but to help faculty point to a resource for supporting their students

 

  • Preparation for Technology Disruptions: Resource page of helpful tips for backing up your Grade Centre, Archiving your whole course …. to have a back up in case anything happens (suggestion: back up course every couple of weeks)
