Sexualized Violence

Safer Campuses for Everyone Training – Employee Edition

The Sexualized Violence: Safer Campuses for Everyone – Employee Edition training flows from the legislation that was passed in British Columbia in 2016. BCcampus took on the project to build this training which was funded by the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills and is available as a resource to all post-secondary institutions in BC.

The training was designed to allow the inclusion of policy, procedures and supports specific to each post-secondary institution. There is a version for employees and another for students.

Key Principles for This Training

The Sexualized Violence: Safer Campuses for Everyone – Employee Edition training is based on eight key principles:

  • Accessible

An Alternative to Training

According to Statistics Canada, 71% of Canadian post-secondary students experienced unwanted sexualized behavior in 2019. Further, according to the Canadian Labour Congress, nearly 50% of workers have experienced sexual harassment and/or sexual violence in 2018 and 2019. These statistics highlight that this type of harm is all too common in communities like ours, and we know that it is likely that many members of our community have been personally impacted by sexual violence. Because of this reality, this training might prove to be a difficult experience for some members of our community. If you are concerned about engaging in this training, you can request to complete the training requirements in an alternative way by contacting the Manager, Human Resources. You will not be required to disclose details of any personal experiences. We ask this request to be reserved for staff impacted by sexual violence and sexual harassment, and/or histories of trauma, violence, or harassment. You can reach Danean Gray, Manager, Human Resources by email at danean.gray@nic.bc.ca or by phone at 250-334-5000 extension 4221. Please use the subject line Alternative to Required Education.
