Channels and Playlists

Channels are collections of videos that multiple users can contribute to, allowing members of a specific group to share and view related content. You can think of a channel as a private video repository for a defined audience. Only users who have been granted access to a channel can see the videos in it.

In Brightspace, a channel takes the form of a course Media Gallery, where only students enrolled in that course can view the videos shared there.

Channels in MediaSpace exist outside of Brightspace and are most useful for employee groups who want a shared space to view or contribute videos on a particular topic. These channels are not public. A channel becomes publicly visible only when selected videos are added to a Gallery, which is administered by CTLI and IT. Galleries appear in the dropdown menus in NIC MediaSpace and contain public collections of videos that anyone can view.

A playlist is a collection of related videos gathered together with one URL for your users to access. You would create a playlist by going to your name in top right corner and clicking on “My Playlists” under the drop down menu. You would then click on + Create Playlist (aqua coloured button on the right side of screen). Add a title, description and any tags and a blank playlist will be created. Then scroll down under the information and see + Add to Playlist – clicking on that button will bring up all your My Media videos. Click the + sign on the right side to add the video to your playlist.
