Brightspace by the company, D2L (Kitchener, Ontario), is NIC’s digital learning environment replacing Blackboard Learn for Fall 2022.
Phase one of the implementation involves 40 faculty (150 courses/550 students) using Brightspace in the Winter 2022 term (those same 150 courses will be turned off in Blackboard Learn).
Starting May, 2022 all NIC courses for the Spring and Summer terms will be in Brightspace with some courses still wrapping up in Blackboard Learn. Starting Fall 2022 all NIC courses will be in Brightspace.
In addition, we are moving all Kaltura media (audio/video files) from the existing (UBC-hosted) platform to another platform (Kaltura Canadian cloud-hosted) to align with the new Brightspace platform (as only one Kaltura instance can be connected to a digital learning platform). All phase one faculty audio/video files will have a copy of their files made and moved to the a new Canadian cloud that is integrated into Brightspace.
Information, training and other communications will be provided to the phase one group as a priority. Brightspace Info and Demo Sessions are also being hosted for employee, students and support staff to attend and learn more. Questions, issues or concerns should be sent to servicedesk.nic.bc.ca
